My name is Oscar Bunnik

I've recently released my debut novel "One More Minute", but my journey has taken many twists and turns in order to get me where I am now
I was born in Utrecht, Netherlands, in 1999 to a Polish mother and a Dutch father. Very quickly after that we moved to Uitgeest ( a town north of Amsterdam), where I would proceed to spend my entire childhood. From a young age, I was drawn to the creative arts, writing stories about “Destroyer Wolves” and imagining a dragon that lived on my shoulder. (I still have the script for Destroyer Wolves to this day, though for the sake of my future writing career, it’s probably best the public never sees it if i want anyone to take me serious) I was never good at sports or anything that required physical coordination—despite how much I loved them. Fortunately, I was great at spinning vivid tales about the amazing things I supposedly did during the game to anyone who hadn’t seen it themselves.
During my life, writing has always stayed with me, sometimes quietly in the background, other times taking center stage. In primary school, I won a local short story competition with a piece about my dog. In high school, I began writing poetry ( most of it was terrible in hindsight, but it laid the groundwork for who I would become. )That poetry evolved into songwriting, which eventually led to a brief, though not unsuccessful, music career.
Over time, I realized it wasn’t the music itself that I enjoyed, but it was writing the lyrics. That realization didn’t immediately lead me to writing novels, though. For several years, I focused on my law studies at the University of Amsterdam, where I had a wonderful time and met some truly incredible people. But writing always found a way back in.
In 2021, I moved to Madrid for a year of study. Looking back at it, that year turned out to be the most important of my life. The friendships I formed, the lessons I learned, and the world that opened up to me during that time shaped me into the person I am today. But above all, it’s where I met my girlfriend, Gabriela, who turned out to be the backbone of me as a writer. A year after we met, we were visiting her family in Costa Rica. And as we sat talking, I told her I’d love to write a book and began describing this epic sci-fi idea I had. I started writing that same day, and since then, I’ve written almost every single day, missing maybe ten days total. That sci-fi novel never saw the light of day but it was the start of this beautiful journey. Around 250 pages in, I set it aside when a new idea hit me: someone gets time with a lost loved one, but to earn that time, they must kill. And that’s how One More Minute was born.
When I say Gabriela has been the backbone of this project, I mean it because she secretly writes all my books while I take credit for it. No, but in all seriousness, she has proofread everything I’ve ever written, offered thoughtful and honest feedback , helped me brainstorm, and most importantly, kept me going through the hundred million moments I felt like giving up.
Today, I’ve published my first novel, One More Minute, and I’m already working on two more novels I hope to release in 2025. On top of that, I’ve started brainstorming ideas for One More Minute part two(“Another Minute”? “Two More Minutes”? We’ll see.) Beyond that, I have many exciting plans for the future, and I hope you’ll join me on this journey. I’m just getting started, and I truly believe the best is yet to come.
